The Human Capital and Economic Opportunity Global Working Group (HCEO) and the Institute for Economic and Social Research (IESR) at Jinan University are delighted to announce their Summer School on Socioeconomic Inequality and Best Paper Competition, July 12st – 16th, 2021. All undergraduate students majoring in economics and related disciplines are eligible to apply for the summer school.

The summer school is designed to provide a state of the art overview of the study of inequality and human flourishing. Participants will learn about integrating psychological and sociological perspective into conventional economic models to understand the foundations of human behavior. Students will be exposed to tools needed to study the dynamic processes that produce conditions of inequality and ways to address them. During this intense one week program, students will attend daily lectures, engage in discussion, and have an opportunity to present their work to leading scholars by participating in the Best Paper Competition. A final award for the best paper will be announced at the end of the summer school.

There is no program fee for admitted students. The summer school consists of both onsite and online events. Students who are admitted will attend the summer school in Guangzhou, China and the travel expenses will be covered. Given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the format will be subject to change.
