HCEO Co-director and MIP network leader Steven N. Durlauf has been named the Steans Family Professor in Educational Policy at the University of Chicago's Harris School of Public Policy.
The University website writes that Durlauf has "helped pioneer the integration of sociological ideas into economic models and the use of statistical mechanics methods to study aggregate behavior when social influences are present." His research has also had an impact in policy areas related to poverty, inequality, and economic growth.
Durlauf joined the University of Chicago faculty in 2017. Prior to joining the Harris School, he served as the William F. Vilas Research Professor and Kenneth J. Arrow Professor of Economics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He also serves as the Associate Director of the Center for the Economics of Human Development.
