Erika C. Claud, MD is a Professor in the Departments of Pediatrics and Medicine, Sections of Neonatology and Gastroenterology at The University of Chicago. She completed medical school, Pediatric Residency, and Neonatology Fellowship at Northwestern University Medical School/Children’s Memorial Hospital followed by a research fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and initial faculty appointment at Harvard Medical School.
The focus of Dr. Claud’s academic interest is the study of the role of the microbiome in preterm infant health outcomes, specifically growth and neurodevelopment. She is also interested in the influence of environmental factors on infant microbiome succession, both in the neonatal intensive care unit and after discharge in the home environment. She is exploring the hypothesis that the microbiome is a biologic effector of the influence of SES and environment on neurodevelopment for this vulnerable patient population.
