This article instead argues that information about inequalities in health across individuals as opposed to information about social group health differences is generally of little use to egalitarians. Since health bears so heavily on opportunity, health inequalities are of particular importance in the context of social policy. Nevertheless, this paper argues that data concerning individual health inequalities do not provide egalitarian policy makers with the information they need. These data typically do not license conclusions about social justice. Health inequalities across individuals are often not prima facie unjust.
