In 2017, the Human Capital and Economic Opportunity Global Working Group (HCEO) expanded our programming around the world, continuing our mission of connecting cross-disciplinary experts in the study of inequality.

This past year, we hosted nine academic programs, including six conferences, all geared toward fostering collaboration and interdisciplinary scholarship. We held three sessions of our Summer School on Socioeconomic Inequality, including our first-ever session in Moscow, which was held in partnership with the New Economic School. In keeping with our mission to invest in the next generation of scholars, in 2017 we also awarded our first-ever dissertation prize.

HCEO continued our commitment to disseminating member research through several website initiatives, in addition to our social media channels. Our Research Spotlights, 3 Questions interviews, and member video interviews all help make our members' research more accessible to the general public. Our working paper series also hit a new stride in 2017, with an increase in submissions of over 200 percent.

We look forward to several new initiatives in 2018, including our first-ever masters-level Summer School on Socioeconomic Inequality, as well as a new video series. We are grateful to those who help make our work possible and are excited for a productive 2018.
