Clive Belfield is an Associate Professor of Economics, Queens College, City University of New York. He is also Co-director of the Center for Benefit-Cost Studies in Education, Teachers College, Columbia University, and Associate Editor, Economics of Education Review. His research field is cost-benefit and cost-effectiveness analysis of educational interventions. Belfield's most recent book is The Price We Pay: The Economic and Social Costs of Inadequate Education. He has authored numerous articles on the economics of education and has served as a consultant to the World Bank, the U.S. Department of Education, nad the British Government, as well as non-profit foundations and education think tanks.

Belfield received his B.A. from the University of Durham in 1990, his M.A. from the University of Saskatchewan in 1993, and his Ph.D. from the University of Exeter in 1997, all in Economics.
